The Central Asia Climate Fund (CACF) Project Office for Climate Change and Green Energy in Central Asia (hereinafter – CACF) will act as a co-organizer of three side events at the 30th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (hereinafter – COP-30), which will take place in Belém, Brazil, from 10 to 21 November 2025. These events will serve as an important preparatory stage for the 2026 Regional Environmental Summit (hereinafter – RES-2026).

The first COP-30 side event, titled “Climate-Induced Migration and Green Skills Development in Central Asia: Towards the Regional Ecological Summit-2026”, will be held on 15 November in an in-person format.

The main goal of the event is to showcase regional approaches to addressing climate-induced migration through the development of green competencies, job creation, and strengthening the adaptive capacity of populations, as well as to identify cooperation areas to be reflected in the RES-2026 agenda.

The side event will include a panel discussion with representatives from Central Asian countries and the International Organization for Migration, featuring three substantive presentations covering different aspects of the topic (regional cooperation, national experience, international support), followed by an interactive Q&A session.

The second COP-30 side event, titled “Climate Change, Health, and Productivity Loss in Central Asia”, will take place on 18 November in a hybrid format, allowing both online and in-person participation.

During the event, a scientific review will be presented on the impact of climate change, particularly extreme heat, on health, including sexual and reproductive health, and on labor productivity in Central Asia. The session will explore possible adaptation pathways and resilience-building measures, health system preparedness, worker protection mechanisms, and gender-responsive policies. It will also discuss prospects for cooperation between researchers, government bodies, and international organizations to promote joint action and adaptation measures.

The third side event, titled “Forests and Land Degradation: Synergy of the Three Rio Conventions and Central Asia’s Contribution to Global Solutions”, will be held on 19 November in a hybrid format.

Organized jointly by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan and CACF, the event will focus on:

- Experiences in integrating the goals of the three Rio Conventions at national and regional levels (with an emphasis on Central Asia);

- The role of nature-based solutions in restoring degraded lands;

- Mobilizing investments for forest and land restoration and biodiversity conservation;

- Opportunities to integrate regional initiatives into COP-30’s Global Action Program.

The upcoming sessions are expected not only to serve as platforms for dialogue, knowledge exchange, and alignment of regional actions, but also to contribute to the development of recommendations for inclusion in the final documents of RES-2026.

As previously reported, the Regional Ecological Summit is scheduled to take place in Astana from 22 to 24 April 2026, where environmental challenges in Central Asian countries and possible solutions will be discussed.
