One region, one vision, one future

About the Summit

The Regional Ecological Summit 2026 was initiated by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kassym‑Jomart Tokayev, and is designed to bring together the countries of Central Asia to develop joint solutions to climate change, in partnership with the United Nations. This is not just a high-level event — it is a two-year process launched in 2024, culminating in the Summit in 2026, where coordinated ecological initiatives and regional cooperation mechanisms will be presented.

At the heart of this initiative lies the concept of "Bir Tamyr" ("One Root"). The word tamyr exists in nearly all languages of the region and carries deep imagery — the roots of nature, the veins of the earth, the vessels of culture. It is a metaphor of connection, resilience, and shared heritage, uniting Central Asia not by political borders but by meaning, memory, and vision for the future.

The Regional Ecological Summit reflects this image: one region – shared challenges – collective action. It will bring together governments, international organizations, the scientific community, businesses, civil society, and youth to build a foundation for a common, ecologically sustainable future.

Goals and Outcomes of the Regional Ecological Summit

The 2026 Regional Ecological Summit, in partnership with the UN, serves as a platform for Central Asian countries to come together and develop coordinated climate and ecological solutions.
Preparations began in 2024 and include a series of regional consultations to develop concrete initiatives and mechanisms for joint action. The Summit will serve as the culmination of this process and provide political momentum for the region’s environmental agenda.

The initiative builds upon existing national efforts and enhances them with a regional dimension. At its core is a shared ecological agenda, including updated climate goals for Central Asian countries, to be presented in 2025.

Expected outcomes include the launch of a Regional Program to support ecological research, the strengthening of interstate cooperation, and a common framework for implementing environmental solutions across the region.
