The Training Center of the Central Asian Climate Fund (CACF), in cooperation with the Information and Analytical Center for Environmental Protection (IAC EPP) of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, held a one-day practical course titled «ESG Assessment of Kazakhstani Enterprises Based on Official Environmental Data».

The course was developed and delivered by Yerlik Karazhan, Chief Executive Officer of the Central Asian Climate Fund.

During the training, participants were introduced to international ESG standards and the specifics of their application in Kazakhstan. They learned how to analyze data on emissions, discharges, and waste, as well as how to use tools for comparing the environmental performance of enterprises.

«Investment attraction has gone beyond the pursuit of short-term financial returns on projects. Investors are increasingly concerned about ensuring that projects are not exposed to risks associated with changes in legislation or their impact on the environment and society. Understanding the language of investors who follow ESG principles is no longer simply a trend, but a requirement of the times. Moreover, without a clear strategy for managing such risks, it is impossible to attract new capital. What is non-financial reporting? How does the government take non-financial aspects of doing business into account? How can a sustainable business model be developed under the new conditions? Knowing the answers to these questions is the foundation for any type of activity. This course will provide you with the tools and understanding you need to navigate the new environment», – emphasized Yerlik Karazhan.

Upon completion of the training, participants received methodological materials and certificates confirming their professional development in the field of ESG standards implementation.

It is worth recalling that ESG is a set of business standards under which a company takes into account its impact on the environment, society, and the quality of corporate governance. The abbreviation stands for Environmental, Social, and Governance.
