Emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere and water bodies in Kazakhstan amounted to 3.4 mln tonnes

According to the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the actual volume of pollutant emissions in Kazakhstan in 2025 amounted to 3.4 mln tonnes, including 2.3 mln tonnes of air emissions and 1.1 mln tonnes of discharges into water bodies.

It should be emphasized that this volume of emissions is significantly below the limits established for 2025: 4.013 mln tonnes for air emissions, including gases, aerosols and dust, and 2.341 mln tonnes for discharges into water bodies, including rivers, lakes, seas and groundwater, or into sewerage systems, including liquids and wastewater.

At the same time, the largest volume of air emissions was recorded in Pavlodar Region — 698.1 thousand tonnes, against the established limit of 989.1 thousand tonnes. This accounts for almost one third of the national total. Karaganda Region ranked second with 471 thousand tonnes, against the limit of 685.6 thousand tonnes. Aktobe Region was third in terms of air emissions, with 153.75 thousand tonnes, against the limit of 223.3 thousand tonnes.

The largest volumes of discharges into water bodies were recorded in Ulytau Region — 253 thousand tonnes, against the limit of 304.1 thousand tonnes; Karaganda Region — 161 thousand tonnes, against the limit of 317.1 thousand tonnes; and Kostanay Region — 114.5 thousand tonnes, against the limit of 449 thousand tonnes. The lowest volume of air emissions was recorded in Zhetysu Region — 10.05 thousand tonnes. The lowest volume of discharges into water bodies or sewerage systems was recorded in Almaty — 0 thousand tonnes.
