Almaty Hosts Discussion on Preparations for RES-2026

A dialogue platform titled “Green Impulse: Towards the Regional Ecological Summit 2026” was held at the Central Asian Institute of Environmental Research in Almaty. During the event, participants discussed preparations and the agenda for the Regional Ecological Summit 2026 (hereinafter – RES-2026). The event aims to bring together stakeholders to develop approaches to sustainable development in Central Asia, exchange effective practices, and promote the green economy.
The dialogue platform was organized by the Central Asian Institute of Environmental Research and the Central Asia Climate Foundation, with the support of the UNESCO Regional Office in Almaty, the National Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan for UNESCO, and the Akimat of Almaty city.
Representatives of government agencies, international organizations, the business community, the non-governmental sector, ESG and consulting specialists, as well as experts, took part in the discussion.
During the dialogue, participants discussed the role of the financial sector and regulatory initiatives in achieving climate goals, issues of carbon transformation and transition to a green economy, waste management, and took part in a master class and panel discussion on anti-greenwashing.
Based on the results of the discussion, a draft set of recommendations for RES-2026 was developed.
As previously reported, the Regional Ecological Summit is planned to be held on April 22–24, 2026, in Astana, where the challenges facing Central Asian countries and ways to address them will be discussed.
