The Project Office for Central Asia on Climate Change and Green Energy launched the process of developing a Just Transition Strategy

Amid the global climate crisis and the necessity to shift to a low-carbon economy, Kazakhstan must formulate a Just Transition Strategy to guarantee a fair and equitable transformation of its economic structure. It will minimize negative social, economic and environmental consequences for all segments of the population and create conditions for sustainable economic growth.

In August 2024, the Project Office for Central Asia on Climate Change and Green Energy launched the process of developing a Just Transition Strategy.

As part of the Strategy development process, economic scenarios will be modeled to assess potential changes in the labor market associated with the transition to a low-carbon economy. This stage includes developing proposals for creating new jobs in renewable energy, sustainable agriculture and other green sectors. It is also planned to analyze the social and economic consequences of the transition for vulnerable groups of the population, such as residents of rural areas and low-income families.

Thus, the Just Transition Strategy is a key initiative aimed at creating inclusive opportunities for all participants in economic processes in the context of climate change.

The Project Office would like to express special gratitude to the Eurasian Resources Group (ERG), which acted as one of the sponsors of the development of the Just Transition Strategy.
