Second Meeting of Ministers Responsible for Environment, Climate and Ecology of the OTS Member States to be held in Astana

Within the framework of the Regional Ecological Summit 2026 (hereinafter – RES), which will take place in Astana on 22–24 April, the Second Meeting of Ministers responsible for environment, climate and ecology of the Member States of the Organization of Turkic States (hereinafter – OTS) will be held. The meeting will mark an important step in advancing environmental dialogue within the OTS and will contribute to the development of coordinated approaches to ensuring sustainable development in the region.

The holding of the Second Ministerial Meeting was previously agreed by the parties. At the initiative of Kazakhstan, the meeting is being organized within the framework of the RES, highlighting the relevance of the environmental and climate agenda for the Turkic region.

The event will be held in the format of a closed ministerial meeting with the participation of representatives of OTS Member States and observers only. Access for other Summit participants will not be provided.

The meeting will be moderated by the Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Kazakhstan, Yerlan Nyssanbayev.

The event is expected to be attended by the Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States, Kubanychbek Omuraliev; the Secretary General of the Economic Cooperation Organization, Asad Majeed Khan; the Minister of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic, Akyl Toktobaev; Chief Advisor to the President of Türkiye and Deputy Minister of Environment, Urbanisation and Climate Change, Hasan Suver; Advisor to the President of Uzbekistan and Chairman of the National Committee on Ecology and Climate Change, Aziz Abdukhakimov; and Deputy Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, Rauf Hajiyev.

Participants of the meeting will discuss current issues of environmental policy, including climate change adaptation, sustainable use of natural resources, and strengthening regional cooperation. Particular attention will be given to the exchange of experience, alignment of priority areas of cooperation, identification of effective solutions to shared environmental challenges, and the development of joint initiatives in the field of sustainable development.
