Central Asian Youth Statement for the Regional Ecological Summit 2026

5429493670886445923

Within the framework of the Regional Ecological Summit 2026 (RES-2026), representatives of youth from Central Asia addressed the States of the region, participants, strategic partners, and thematic area partners of RES-2026.

In their statement, they emphasized that the region is already facing severe impacts of climate change — including glacier melt, water scarcity, air pollution, land degradation, and biodiversity loss — directly affecting the quality of life and future of millions of people. Particular attention is given to key symbols of the environmental crisis, such as the Aral Sea and the shrinking Caspian Sea, as well as to the high carbon intensity of the economy and the risks of an unequal green transition that may leave vulnerable groups behind.

In response, the youth put forward a comprehensive set of measures, including accelerating the transition to renewable energy, adapting economies and infrastructure to climate risks, ensuring sustainable management of water and natural resources, combating air pollution and waste, and strengthening climate education and youth participation in decision-making processes. A key emphasis is placed on a just and inclusive transition, policy transparency, and enhanced international cooperation and financing to achieve environmental sustainability in the region.
