The Project Office initiates preparations for the Regional Climate Summit 2026

During the 28th Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, the Head of State Tokayev K.K. proposed holding the Regional Climate Summit 2026 (RCS 2026) in Kazakhstan.
Holding such a large-scale international event will open avenues for uniting the efforts of Central Asian countries in creating mechanisms and initiatives that embody a regional approach to mitigating the consequences of climate change and adapting to its effects.
On September 20, 2024, the first discussion of the preparatory process for the RCS 2026 was held at the Project Office, chaired by Zulfiya Suleimenova, Advisor to the President - Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan on International Environmental Cooperation.
The discussion was attended by the heads and representatives of the diplomatic missions of Great Britain, Germany, France, and the European Union in Kazakhstan. Representatives of such international organizations and institutions as the United Nations Development Programme, Asian Development Bank, World Bank, and International Finance Corporation also joined the discussion of the preparation of the RCS 2026.
During the event, participants exchanged opinions on the concept of the upcoming Regional Climate Summit and shared information about ongoing and planned projects in the fields of climate finance, Just Transition, and the Energy Transition Mechanism. The parties reaffirmed their commitment to creating Just transition mechanisms that ensure a sustainable future for millions of people. Head of the Project Office Kuanysh Beisengazin thanked all the participants of the event for the constructive exchange of ideas and expressed hope for further support of the Project Office initiatives. The Head of the Project Office also expressed special gratitude to one of the sponsors of the project for the development of the Just Transition Strategy - the Eurasian Resources Group.
Following the meeting, the participants expressed their readiness for further cooperation in the process of preparation for the RCS 2026.
